On April 30, BASES Autism Services was invited by Elk Grove Village KinderCare to set up a parent resource table in their lobby. It was a chance for parents and caregivers to ask questions, collect information, and learn more about autism diagnoses, ABA therapy, and what support can look like close to home.

For many families, location matters more than people realize.

When therapy is too far away, it can quickly become hard to maintain. A 30-minute drive one way may sound manageable at first, but that can turn into an hour or more round trip, multiple times a week. For working parents, families with other children, and caregivers balancing school schedules, appointments, and daily routines, distance can become a real barrier to care.

That is why having local ABA services in Elk Grove Village is so important.

BASES is proud to be part of the Elk Grove Village community. We are connected with local schools, social services, the police department, Lurie Children’s Hospital, Ascension Autism Center, and parent support groups. These relationships help create a stronger network around children and families, so parents are not left trying to figure out every next step alone.

At KinderCare, we were able to share information about how BASES supports children through individualized, play-based ABA therapy. Our parent resource flyer highlights everyday skills we help children build, including toilet training, answering yes or no questions, using words and full sentences to communicate, personal and physical safety, social skills, and preparing for new experiences.

We also talked with parents about what makes BASES feel accessible. For some families, that means being close to home. For others, it means having someone explain the process in plain language. For many, it means seeing staff who understand their culture, language, and concerns.

Our team speaks Arabic, Spanish, Polish, Urdu, and English, which helps us better serve the diverse families in Elk Grove Village and the surrounding communities. This matters because stigma around a neurodivergent diagnosis can make it harder for families to ask questions or seek support. When parents can communicate in a language that feels familiar, the process can feel less overwhelming.

BASES also supports local providers and referral partners. Our practitioner resource flyer shares that we offer autism consultations by BCBAs, program development support, staff safety and de-escalation training, CPR classes and certification through the American Red Cross, and Authorized Continuing Education as an ACE provider.

We are grateful to Elk Grove Village KinderCare for welcoming us into their space and helping families connect with local resources.

Our goal is simple: to make ABA therapy, parent support, and trusted guidance easier to access for the families who need it. When care is close, connected, and culturally responsive, families have more room to focus on what matters most, helping their child build life skills for greater independence.
