ABA Career

The ABA field offers a life long career path that’s secure, funded and has so many pathways.

The initial steps is find a good, fun company. The company will then ask you to do a 40 hour training which consists of watching videos, and shadowing experienced RBT’s already working at the company. Once you finished your 40 hour training, shadowing and working directly with clients, then you’re ready for your next step… becoming an RBT. This means you are a registered behavior technician. Once you become an RBT, you’ll be supervised by a BCBA and
need 5% supervision for all the hours you work directly with your client. Each year you will also have to renew your certification.

After you become an RBT, you can become a LEAD RBT for a team/ Client. This means you will have more say about the case and help the supervisor and also train others that are coming on board. After you are a lead, you might decide you want to pursue your BCBA, you’ll apply for Grad school, once you are enrolled into a masters program, your company can bring you on board to become a field work student- earning your field work hours helping and assisting the
BCBA! After you graduate, accrue your hours ( 1500/2000) then you are ready to sit for your exam! When you pass this beast, you are a BCBA!! Once a BCBA, you can supervise other field work students, become a Lead BCBA, or even Director of ABA ( having a team of BCBAS that you supervise!
